“We may not be able to immediately make changes in what happens on public lands, but we do have control over what we do in our own yards. Even small spaces can make a big impact.”-Becky

Last Years Highlights!
Woodland
This yard was a blank slate that my awesome client told me to go wild and transform the whole thing! I modeled it after a woodland plant community I saw while camping in North Jersey. Her yard is shaded and moist so it fit well. We utilized recycled logs and rocks to create the feel of an old woodland and treated the pathways as though they represent the small stream in a forest with rocky edges. This yard is so serene and has such atmosphere when you’re there in person.

Coastal Barrens
Before we began this restoration project, the client had let her yard get wild in a different way. Once she realized that all the lush foliage was from invasives!, she called us in to restore her yard to native habitat that would provide much more benefit to her beloved birds. I based part of this design on the plant community at my local park that grows in the same sandy, low nutrient, dry soil and exposed conditions as this yard. I designed the area outside the windows to lean more towards being a bird garden with plants to attract caterpillars or offer seeds and berries for food, and shrubs with branching that provide the most cover.

A big thanks to the crew!

and a special thanks to Catcher, my first garden helper, who we lost in October. He was always willing to dig holes for me and test plant resilience by trampling them.
I plan to work on a garden design that is specifically for dogs and donate some of the profits to local shelters.

about us
Becky Hope
has enjoyed many years of work in the fields of ecology, horticulture, and art. Her most cherished experiences were planting natives, observing Osprey, and maintaining trails at Cheesequake State Park as a seasonal project coordinator, and learning by doing as a volunteer at her local community garden. She thanks her mother for long walks naming flowers they passed and for revealing the mysteries of how to create beautiful art; and her father for teaching her to not fear but appreciate insects and encourage scientific curiosity. Becky currently volunteers to manage invasive species and protect natives at a local park, and runs a local native plant swap group online that is certified by Home Grown National Park. She enthusiastically and voraciously reads and researches anything nature related to keep learning how to best to help restore our landscapes.
